Aodh O’Donnell, the owner and operator of the vessel Neachtáin, is based in Union Hall, West Cork.  He has 25 years experience of boat skippering, diving and survey work.

Aodh has always been involved with community and sporting activities.  He was a founder and trainer of the Ballydehob Judo Club and Munster Champion Downhill Mountain Biking 2004.  He is a qualified trainer in Padi diving courses, and a founder member of the Irish Technical Diving Association and the Fastnet Diving Club.

In 2007 Aodh, along with several other people, founded Ireland’s first voluntary medical emergency response unit, the West Cork Rapid Response Unit.  This project now has a fully fitted out vehicle with a Panel of Medical Experts, all run on a voluntary basis.  As of December 2010 they have saved 42 lives and assisted many more people in trouble.  The organization is currently running a program to up-skill General Practitioners in emergency medicine and is fund raising for a second vehicle.  See http://westcorkairambulance.ie for more information.

Aodh holds many marine-related qualifications, including Certificates in Sea Survival, Fire Fighting at Sea, Radio & Satellite Communications (LRC 3) and Advanced First Aid.
